Mandate & Activity


Mandates 

  • Conduct “On-farm testing” for identifying technologies in terms of location-specific sustainable land use systems through technology assessment and refinement.
  • Organise frontline demonstrations on various crops to generate production data and feedback information.
  • Organise short and long term vocational training courses in agriculture and allied vocations for the farmer and rural youth with emphasis on “learning by doing” for higher production on farms and generation of self employment.
  • Organise training to update the extension personnel with emerging advances in. agricultural research on regular basis.
  • Act as a knowledge and resource centre for advancement of agriculture in the district.

District at a Glance

  • Chatra is situated in the north-west of Jharkhand State at a latitude of 23º44º N-24º3143” N and longitude of 84º27º00”E - 8521’ 03E.
  • It comprises of one sub-division with 12 community development blocks viz., Itkhori, Mahuatand, Chatra, Kanhachhati Hunteganj, Pratappur, Simariya, Tandwa, Kunda, Lawalong, Gidhour and Pathalgadda. There are altogether 159 pancyats and 1479 villages in the district.
  • Chatra is an agricultural district due to lack of any major industry.
    Majority of the population depends on agriculture for its livelihood.
